without an actual comment from someone working on yarn i think you jumped the gun by assuming that the change wont be made
when you say "making such big decisions out-of-band, internally, behind closed doors", @dan_abramov literally sits next to the people who work on yarn at FB so it's not really surprising that he's able to have casual conversations to ask what they think about certain things
it's not the first time, and at least this time you have an internal person actually remarking on it. I think I have enough reason to believe there was no intention to actually do this.
Hey, @dan_abramov is a great supporter of Yarn but has neither worked on Yarn nor is he an authority on the project. The people working on Yarn have not really looked at the issue you linked due to other priorities.
