Almost a week with Amazon Echo and I can’t help but feel like it’s just speech recognition with a bunch of regexes. Doesn’t feel “smart”. Works really poorly unless you’re 100% locked into Amazon and all its services. Anybody else have similar experiences?

Just got the chance to check this out and it looks amazing and exactly what I was looking for to play around. How does the custom ASR work? Is it all proprietary or using existing libs?

Not working on that part, but I believe we started from a lib but have something pretty custom now to get the performance we have.

And just in general re proprietary work: we (Snips) are going to open source more of our code going forward. Not the ASR afaik, but other parts of the pipeline.
