Almost a week with Amazon Echo and I can’t help but feel like it’s just speech recognition with a bunch of regexes. Doesn’t feel “smart”. Works really poorly unless you’re 100% locked into Amazon and all its services. Anybody else have similar experiences?

Yep that pretty much sums it up. Great for setting timers and playing Spotify. Aaaand that’s about it.
I got Philips hue lights so have been using it for that too. The Spotify integration isn’t even that good, I’ve found it getting confused a lot, have to specify “from Spotify” when using speech recog.

Ours will recognize song requests but say they are not found on Spotify, repeating the title and musician name correctly... then next time I say the exact same thing, it finds the song and plays it.
