Seniority is a weird classification in general. At Facebook the concept of seniority doesn't exist. Engineering levels are private and everyone retains the title of "Software Engineer" or "Front End Engineer" for their entire tenure.
Seniority is never a self awarded title anyway. Usually awarded by an employer or peers who I would hope have enough judgement to evaluate you relative to others.

@sebmck is someone I would definitely hire as a senior engineer. I‘ve known people in the industry for 20 years longer than he’s been alive who I don’t think have the skills he has technically.
