I find it surprising how little the USB-C ecosystem has improved in the last year despite Apple's big push.
Really? I’ve seen an amazing assortment of USBC cables. Mostly been pushed by other mobile vendors switching though and less the MBP. If Apple ditched lightning then we’d see an even bigger proliferation.

Yeah, cables that won't blow up your device are easier to find, but no hubs, HDMI connectors are still mostly rubbish, and prices haven't gone down meaningfully.
