Either way, I'm not sure it was up to engineers to make that kind of decision (I might be wrong, but would be quite surprised).
Decisions like that are usually driven from high up in the food chain. Product managers etc. Similar at FB with Messenger :/

Yeah exactly my thoughts too. Would be very unlikely that engineers who built it, decided to limit access to it themselves :)
