Some projects reach a point where in order to drastically improve, the API needs to be changed so much that it’s basically a new project.

But the ecosystem integration makes it impossible. At that point it’s less friction to start a new project and make it behave differently.

Semantic major version update is effectively the same thing. "Project" is our word for "brand," so question is whether new brand = better.

Can you reverse polyfill the old API? So that plugins are *actually* running in the new engine but with the old API?

Or even better, write a codemod to transform old plugin code using the old API to the new one?
