We found none of the alternatives as good as Highcharts, it handles a lot of edge cases and has better defaults. Was well worth investing

May or may not be what you're looking for. But I've heard good things about http://www.chartjs.org/

chartjs is pretty good and flexible for canvas-based charts, though I haven't used highcharts so I can't really compare

Chart.js for performance and tweaking. Never managed to have such perfs with svg based libs. http://www.chartjs.org/
