I have a React UI library but want to make it framework-agnostic. Is there a good way to make custom elements render to React components?

it's very hard if you don't assume anything about the CE source format. a CE can just be arbitrary JS + DOM manip.
Would (p)react be able to be performant with that many roots? Not sure how heavy instantiation is.

can't speak to React but in Preact a root has no implicit cost. I think React does some bookkeeping at the root but it'd be trivial.
