Heroku is a rip off. What are alternatives for easily deploying a simple Node web app?

Yep, 8 seconds to first byte. Not interested in doing voodoo magic to debug, should just work. Kinda regret signing up for the $15 plan now.

I've noticed that it sometimes will install your app and then serve it on the fly. Do subsequent page loads also take 8s?

Are you in dev mode? It’s very “dev by default” but at least it just works

Yep I'm sure, the same app on a DigitalOcean VPS loads in 50ms.

They suspend inactive apps after a couple hours of no activity. I’ve found a service like pingdom or updown.io keep them up.
