Seeing people brag about writing their talk to the day of or before is so weird. It's like a kid bragging about not studying for an exam.

Before a talk it might just be nerves, lowering expectations. After a good talk, then it's maybe an attempt at modesty. People are all weird

Agree, especially considering how many people want to give talks and take it seriously.

(And I should note that I did tweak my React Europe talk up until the last minute, but I also worked on it for three weeks straight.)

"Yeah, they invited me, paid for my flight and hotel and I didn't care about the talk until very last minute" - not okay in my book

flipside is if you cater the talk last minute to the needs of the event/audience or to avoid clashes with other talks. That's dedication.
