TIL the tilde (~) key on modern computers came from Portuguese mechanical typewriters for the letters ñãõ.

TIL too, I'd have swore it came from Spanish but we don't need to use it on its own, it's only used with ñ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilde
