it's Google branded now - they changed it in a recent update "Google Cast"
Does anyone know why Chromecast uses the Chrome branding when it has nothing to do with Chrome?

Google Cast is the name of the technology, Chromecast is the name of the device.

Chromecast runs a modified version of Chromium (receiver apps are JS) & the name sounds better than Alphabet Streaming Stick Thing
