makes tons of sense seeing it again after reading that.
But the grey area resembles to me the negative area of a common Spartan helmet (not Roman) on the first look and by the thread it suggests that will be a recurring confusion... 
Both designs are derivatives of the Roman arch. To some the bottom logo looks like a helmet, which is the exact opposite imagery that it's meant to invoke. ie. I think you can get away from the helmet association by flattening the points at the bottom (so they become structural, like the base of an arch) and/or add a single repetition, so we see 2 pillars instead of 1

I reckon it resembles a helmet only because you had a helmet logo in the first place. New users won't get that association as much.
