Jeykll so far has been my favourite static site generator. Nothing for me has ever come close to being as easy to use. Everything else, including all the React solutions, are very intimidating.

You should revisit NextJS. They recently added a few new data fetching APIs meant for static sites and they made it very easy for me to make my blog completely static. (But you also have the flexibility of SSR!)

Like, as the language for the site itself, or for writing posts? I write my stuff in Markdown. I do have fond memories of Jekyll’s templating though

I think he means Jekyll-style, where custom plugins can be written in Ruby, but you generally don’t need to write anything other than Markdown as the processing and blog building is automatic. Can Next do that out of the box?
