The terminal is still the best interface isn't it.
Not really. I had to invent my own string markup format to properly format ANSI codes.

It supports nested formatting etc. it’s nice as the markup strings can easily be converted to HTML or markdown for display in a non-terminal environment. The only place where ANSI codes are used in Rome is the renderer.
