Similarly, I love JS and the browser but I love building systems, frameworks, libraries, tools, etc more than building UIs. So "JavaScript infra" role was a better fit for me than "frontend."
"I write JavaScript" "Oh so you make websites?" "Erm sort of. I help other people make websites..."

It can be frustrating though because sometimes I just want to be a normal dev and build apps but when I try I find the process incredibly lacking and I get derailed to go build the tools to make it better.

very relatable. Sometimes i start building tools and then get stuck building other tools to make the process of building the initial set of tools better
