Tend to agree and disagree here. Had cats my whole life. From inside and outside. Quality of life for the cat (not by busy road or in a city) was better. However environment wise yes is a problem.
How do you determine whether a cat enjoys being outside more? Even if that is the case, I don’t understand how to justify that over their lifespan.

Also what's your justification that they enjoy it indoors more? If you have the opportunity create a healthy environment for both.

The argument here is that it’s worth cutting the lifespan of a cat just because they supposedly like it outdoors. Seems to undervalue their life, and combined with ecological impact it seems selfish.

I had a cat who would get anxious and hate everyone if they couldn't go explore and the exact polar opposite that loved being inside. Once again depends on the cat. And the ones that did go outside lived in a safe open space. So they all lived to around the same age.

How did the outdoor cats die?

My cat as a child would howl at the door to be let out. Bringing back trophies (leaving dead animals on the door step) shows it wanted to contribute to the home. A cat can adapt to indoors but you cant completely replicate nature inside your house.
