Tend to agree and disagree here. Had cats my whole life. From inside and outside. Quality of life for the cat (not by busy road or in a city) was better. However environment wise yes is a problem.

You can't definitely say all cats dig it. I've had cats on farms, flats etc. Their quality of life depends on how their owner raises them and interacts with them more than if they live inside or not. I don't disagree with the environment statement tho

How do you determine whether a cat enjoys being outside more? Even if that is the case, I don’t understand how to justify that over their lifespan.

Creating a friendly home environment inside is what is more important. Places for them to get some alone time, comfy place to eat and sleep etc etc. And quality of life as in no creature wants to be cooped up. Do humans enjoy it in quarantine? Some do. Not all. Depends on the cat

Spot-on... such measures are often argued about cats preferring e.g. raw nature over comfort and safety... but why should they be different to humans here?
