Same question and answer for everything that Rome does

I don’t really know that answer tbh. No animosity here at all, but it’s yet another uphill battle you’ll have to fight?

Lint autofixes operate on the AST. So you need to generate a pretty AST. Either then require you to run a nicer autoformatter or we just improve Rome's code generator. Easy decision. Why uphill battle? Easy to tell people to just use Prettier if they don't like it.

You are choosing the style of people’s code, and taking on that responsibility. Absolutely an uphill battle to convince everyone of that format. Just use prettier is too simplistic. If i use it, and your autofix reformats everything, and I have to format back, no way

Of course it takes responsibility but the up front messaging is “deal with it”. If your Rome autofix + prettier breaks then that’s just consequence of not picking the blessed method, which is using the Rome autoformatter.

Which is why it’s going to be an uphill battle
If you’re fine with a smaller target audience, sure, but it’s another thing you have to sell when pitching the product. Not trying to tell you what to do though.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like
I don't think having no formatting options will be a hindrance to the success of Rome. Prettier has done a good job of removing those decisions from developers and there is a lot of appetite for making even more decisions.

I'm eager to see how it plays out. Not talking about options (wish prettier had zero) so much as selling the blessed format you choose. JS is so big that the combination of syntaxes makes nice formatting for lots of people hard. Will be interested in your take
