People seriously overestimate the value companies place on open source work and things that do not effect their bottom line. Where are all these altruistic companies paying six figures to do whatever you want???
It’s still not a lot of money when talking about full time employees, even considering London, which was the main point of my tweet. The pool of companies willing to fund full time is very low because there’s ~no commercial value and so limited competition and poor job mobility.

We invest 120.000 per year into Webpack. That covers at least one FTE in Germany, probably more (including additional expenses). I got approval for that because we understand the value it provides. Up to the CEO level.

And don’t forget that we get no stake in the roadmap. We have to trust that what the project team does is worth the money we invested into it.
