I was wondering the same thing when I visited Texas! Some of the cups I saw even had a blurb printed onto them about why they're apparently 'better' than paper/plastic cups.

They are pretty great. Shocked at how long my drinks have stayed cool without melted ice but feels like a terrible tradeoff given the environmental impact.

In the 90s/early 2000s for sure. I think they’ve died down in favor of plastic cups over the past decade or so.

they’re everywhere in texas and oklahoma... esp gas stations. Many prefer them since they don’t “sweet” as much. they get reused since refills are cheaper than new drinks.
