Do you think they're intentionally targeting your company name like what's happening with Basecamp or are they targeting the phrase "react training" for people looking for react training

it doesn't matter, 5 ads that fills up the entire vertical space is too many regardless of a generic company name or popular product being targeted by competitors.

Yeah the impact to you is the same and I’m sympathetic to that but it also wouldn’t be fair for people to be able to overtake common search terms by naming their company after that term. It’s different than the quoted case which is abusing the system to go after trademarks.

I didn't say it was identical to basecamp case, but still, you don't earn the top spot just by having the the domain name.

I think it’s reasonable for people to assume you’re talking about the same topic and not making some other vaguely related point.

Get targeted by competitors: have to pay to play. Earn the top spot: still have to pay to play. It's not that different for the organic top result, just less personal.

DHH’s point is about competitors abusing the system by targeting trademarks. Your point that ads are above organic content is about the whole ads system itself. They’re fundamentally different points and that’s why people are replying that react training isn’t the same.

If you're looking for feedback: probably don't reply to people telling them their point "doesn't matter", don't reply with your point in all caps, don't quote tweet calling people out, and overall take more time considering perspectives before jumping in to defend your point.

You quote tweeted yourself calling someone out https://twitter.com/ryanflorence/status/1205620801816252417 …

It's not calling someone out when are simply you stating what you mean. Ryan has a point: even if react training is a generic phrase, the site is the organic #1 but the result is flooded with ads.
