I wonder if it's healthy that when Facebook open sources internal tools, they automatically come out of the gate with a lot of credibility in the React community.

It becomes problematic when it's unclear to the community whether they should expect a general-purpose thing, or a tool built specifically for Facebook's needs.
Which is exactly why it hasn’t been open sourced yet, if at all. I do believe it is general purpose enough though to warrant potentially a public release.

If it has distinct features that are not found in the open source landscape, I'd absolutely go for it
But personally, I'm holding out for a design system that supports ReactNative(+Web) -
It has distinct features and the API was designed with possible React Native convergence in mind

I think people generally trust the React team to treat internal projects fairly. Just look at how well they collaborate with Apollo folks, even though they sit next to Relay
