Despite my previous tweet may I also say I appreciate that you care! My feeling is simply that you are not looking at this practically or objectively enough. It seems like GitHub are trying to affect change via their parent company's lawsuit.
They are actively causing harm by supporting the operations of an organization doing forced family separation and inhumane detention. The measures taken to offset it are very rational. This categorical imperative upon which you would like people to operate is irrational. The reference to carbon offsets is an emotionally charged false equivalence.
It's liberating as fuck not having to be afraid of getting canceled by my peers. Operating on principals is healthier and more respectable anyway. We agree on more than you might think, but categorical thinking over relativism can tend to throw baby out with bath water.
And aren't you actively causing harm by supporting the operations of an organisation that has broken the privacy of millions, contributed to a growing epidemic of social isolation and has been publicly outted for conducting a world wide experiment playing with ppls mental health?
I get that you're mad, fine. But you can see a large group of people in here feel that you are not being consistent in your assessment of these situations. I'm keen to hear a logical rebuttal to my tweets though. And again appreciate your heart on the issues.
