The moment we released JSX, JavaScript became a compiled language for many. You are a compiled language user. Now we are just haggling about the implementation.

Pretty sure 6to5 didn't come out until ~a year after React (ES6 wasn't even final until 2 years after React was out). JSX (née XJS) was already public in our fork of Esprima but there weren't many AST transform tools (whish is why we released jstransform).
6to5 was released in September 2014 (https://github.com/babel/babel/commit/c97696c224d718d96848df9e1577f337b45464be …) and got React JSX support a month later (https://github.com/babel/babel/commit/f06901ac0593d48ffe45124c6a672f70c96056dd#diff-446560e147df59d40baef960534ec0c6 …)

I still have a few sites using React 0.9/0.10 where the JS is compiled using JSTransform... Maybe I should update them one day. Haha
