When Lerna changed their license to forbid usage from ICE collaborators a lot of people got angry because it was no longer free software" and was "mixing politics and sofrware". Big fuck you to those people. Would love to see a more formalized version of that license.
Yeah, a restrictive license with exceptions for personal usage, and if you're particular organizations would work. Whitelist instead of a blacklist. That bleeds into the broader conversation of compensation in software, which seems to be where it belongs.

Needs to be based on well considered principles rather than ad hoc judgments. But yeah, compensation could also come into the picture if you already set up restrictions for usage.

That said, I wouldn’t use a license like that for my projects. There are better ways to achieve political goals.
