When ~/Desktop gets too cluttered I put it all in a new folder ~/Desktop/Desktop. Of course, it doesn't stop there - I end up with ~/Desktop/Desktop/Desktop.. Used to fight it. Felt disorganized but I'm not going to fight it anymore. I'm a desktop nester. Don't try to change me.
I gave up long ago and now my desktop is hidden. Although now it's a constant struggle for if I've saved something to Desktop, Downloads, Pictures or Documents
Everything to Downloads and I use Documents as an “archive”
