When Lerna changed their license to forbid usage from ICE collaborators a lot of people got angry because it was no longer free software" and was "mixing politics and sofrware". Big fuck you to those people. Would love to see a more formalized version of that license.

Noticing a VERY specific trend amongst the people replying asserting that this is fine

And frankly, before you start throwing around "despicable" for things like this, maybe consider the beam in your own eye and the role Facebook and cambridge analytica et al played in bringing this about.

Why do you think I haven't considered that?

Because the main effect of that kind of protest is harm to open source. It does not help the kids one bit, it does at most mildly inconvenience the people you want to hit..

Better than nothing. As a software engineer, what other ways are there to protest and make it more difficult for ICE?

You're making an awful lot of assumptions about my own nationality, the nationality of my family, and the places I've lived.

This is wrong on so many level I don't know where to start. Just a few: 1. freedom is here to do things you disagree with too 2. free software idea is way more important than 30 days of detention 3. free software means anyone can use, even China harvesting organs, why not ICE?

Imagine the case where the protest is against something we like: ”this software is open source except for companies that offer benefits to same sex couples” - I’m sure you can find people who find equal marriage despicable. So I don’t support it for things I agree with either.

I respect the right of anyone to restrict the usage of the product of their free labor. I also object to your premise since there are laws specifically designed to prevent that sort of discrimination being enforced
