this doesn't seem like a healthy way to react to a joke

Garry, hey, woman engineer here. I’ve worked in spaces like yours. Where sexually-charged jokes were encouraged. I felt forced to laugh along, being the only woman, and my colleagues were like, wow, Cher is such a cool girl, can hang with the guys and our locker room talk.

I was sexually harassed as a part of the culture on a regular basis, and was terrified to talk about how uncomfortable I was with the constant objectification of women, especially when I was the target. Eventually, one would think I was cool enough to want to sleep with him.

This happened at literally every single mainly-male work space with this culture, and when I didn’t want to, I was no longer the cool girl, I was the annoying feminist who couldn’t hang. I don’t know if you realize how toxic a culture the “joke” signals AND makes, but you now

have the information, so I hope you consider how jokes like that, a culture like that, pushes women away.

I'd like to add to Cher's POV. I'm not a woman, but I am gay. I can tell you that cultures like this hurt & alienate gay & bisexual men. Men who create workplaces like this often use their sexuality as a frat-house hazing lever over queer men. 1/?

This flavor of masculine hazing always takes on a sexually sadistic undercurrent when it's aware of someone's queerness (and this is to say nothing of queer women). My worst experiences with sexual aggression have all come from men like this. Please reflect and do better.

You guys can tell a lot from 3 sentences written by someone you don't know from somewhere you don't know for a company you don't know with intentions you don't know

Lol Garry as someone who spent most of their teen years participating on the Facepunch forum, this is pretty representative of the culture that was permeated there, and from you personally

I don't think I ever did any of this, or encouraged any of this on the forums. I encouraged people to interact freely, but I think I treated everyone with the same low level of respect.
