lets do this my country has been trapped in recession for abt 10 years with many austerity measures & social safety nets being eroded to please germany which is really not shy about how much they like being the rich kid, running the show, and getting cheap labour off ushttps://twitter.com/freiksenet/status/1173815888627326977 …

the worst part about brexit by far for me is that it shifted the discourse from 'hey what the EU is doing to greece and other PIGS countries is very fucked up' to 'WE LOVE THE EU

the whole schengen zone is currently in shambles since the second brown people started taking advantage of it – the way we have handled this overall is shameful and paints a grim picture for the future as the south becomes inhospitable https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_migrant_crisis#Effects_on_Dublin_and_Schengen_rules …

overall the EU is good, being in the EU as a bottom tier country is probably? good (worlds fucked anyway) but I'm hella skeptical of its goals and overall direction and I wonder how much of that goodness is still actually there and how much of it is there by inertia

Replying to @freezydorito
Bottom tier countries get lots from EU as well - if you go around Poland, then every second building is built with EU money. I'm not saying that your criticism is invalid, however it comes off as super privileged coming from an EU passport holder.

Yeah, not to minimize other fucked up things the EU does, but there are many benefits poorer regions get from the EU. Madeira, where my wife is from, has received a lot of money to develop the island that the local economy would not be able to afford due to the geology.
