This has been just the nicest exchange and sequence of replies. As someone just looking into the React community it really boosts my confidence in its inclusiveness. Meanwhile we've got giants in Android openly admiring semi misogynist/fascists and no one says anything hmm.

Please keep in mind that Dan and I have the privilege of speaking about this more calmly because we don't feel like we are in danger speaking about these issues. Someone who has been hurt because of these issues will understandably have more charged reactions. Be empathetic.

I want everyone to be purposeful in discovering issues that marginalized folks deal with, and to really listen to those voices and how they are impacted, no matter how much it hurts. Believe it or not, I was one of the idiots that said "all lives matter". I didn't get it then.

A lot of black women I knew were extremely angry and not kind in their criticism. I don't blame them for that. I understand how hurtful it was despite that I didn't intend it. It took work on MY behalf to learn about other issues I was ignorant to because of my privilege.

It's our responsibility to use our privilege to learn about and empathize with the impact various spaces and sub-cultures have on marginalized people. Be willing to listen to the upset and angry voices of the marginalized, not just the calm privileged.
