I haven't experienced a toxic side to the React community. Is it because I'm a white guy? a core member? something else? How can I help fix a thing that I can't see? Yes, I am sincerely asking. No, I don't expect an answer. No one owes me one just because I asked.

If you take a look at the replies to Ken's initial thread then you'll find plenty of evidence of people in the community who are terrible. From incredibly racist statements to people mocking others for "being gullible liberals," it's all there in plain sight.

If you take a look at the discussions on Reddit and Twitter, you'll find even more people calling this whole thing a witch hunt on Ken led by those who are sensitive or who want to bring politics into everything. It's dismissive and unwelcoming behavior and it's not new.

There is also a large segment of people who believe this is just about Ken being a white supremacist or not, and that's not the case. There are multiple discussions occurring, and to say "Ken's not a WS because ..." is ignoring the bulk of the criticism.

I saw some replies that were inappropriate, yes.
I also saw some references to a larger issue in the community. That's the thing I'm having trouble understanding or identifying. That's what I'm asking about, I guess.
(To be clear, I'm not saying it doesn't exist.)1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

A lot of the criticism is vague because, as we've seen, a person can experience serious trauma if their stories reach a wide audience. However, people are aware of this stuff, so I suppose the question is, "Why have others picked up on this when I have not?"

The answer to that question will likely not be found in a public Twitter thread. Perhaps having a private discussion with people in the community would be more fruitful? Because in public these conversations tend to boil down to threads like this:https://twitter.com/sebmck/status/1165453520289460227 …

That thread specifically talked about a single person though. Brian is more interested in hearing about any broader pathological issues.

The first part of his question is why hasn't he seen the toxic side of the community. Have you, Sebastian? I suspect you have. If so, what would your advice be to him? You both seem to share overlap in terms of background and working on React in official roles.
