Yarn already suppresses them and I can't recall there being any complaints about it. Should be none, or very little, ecosystem impact if npm did the same.
My concern around this feature was scripts going interactive and having no way to know that had happened, but Yarn having jumped in with this ensured that even if some were already doing so, that they'd stop so as to not break Yarn.
(I know there was at least one out there that did this, 'cause my main patch for Yarn was to close stdin and detach /dev/tty so that scripts would just fail instead of hang when this happened.)
