I am not proud to live in the US. Just as I have not been proud to live in Australia or the UK. When you say you are a patriot, or proud of a certain country, you are associated with both the negative (and sometimes positives) effects of that country.

I'm saying broadly that being proud of your country, outside of very extreme circumstances, doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Be proud of specific things. Unilateral endorsement just looks naive. Unless I know the person well, saying you're proud is ambiguous.
