I think you're confusing pride and gratitude. I can have gratitude to live somewhere without pride that I live there or in my countrymen. I can even say "I love the place I live but hate the people in charge".

You likely had no idea about any of that. And if you did, then it's an outrageous thing to say. I have Australian in my bio because it is a part of my identity. Culturally I am Australian, and it is my home country. I am grateful to have been born there but I am not proud.
Of course, which is why I think it's daft to be proud of something that has extremely traits. Unilaterally endorsing a country is absurd. The things I mentioned are all prevelant throughout Australian culture. Shocked you are actually doubting me. Have you ever visited Australia?
