I am not proud to live in the US. Just as I have not been proud to live in Australia or the UK. When you say you are a patriot, or proud of a certain country, you are associated with both the negative (and sometimes positives) effects of that country.
I understand my privilege to be able to live in those countries, but I don’t think that means I need to be proud of them
I think you're confusing pride and gratitude. I can have gratitude to live somewhere without pride that I live there or in my countrymen. I can even say "I love the place I live but hate the people in charge".
