Only now did I realize a bigger benefit of a foundation, or wider organization governing a project. CoC enforcement. I struggle to think of a way that a small centrally governed project could ever make people feel comfortable submitting complaints about a core member.
Especially when it comes to projects that I've historically worked on, where for a short amount of time, I'm at the top. What if I doing something wrong? Nobody will report a violation from myself, to me.
We are working on foundation wide governance and support for CoC related matters in @openjsf rn!
Is that happening somewhere in the open where I can read along?
For what it's worth, at the time, CoC's in general weren't yet the norm and everyone was still using the term "governance". And I think I did a bad job explaining the non-technical issues with the BDFL model.
