Why do people give a platform to those they disagree with? If someone says something overtly ridiculous and harmful, why broadcast it? Am I missing something that somehow makes the situation better?

Overtly ridiculous and harmful in who's opinion? Yours? For example I find your tweet overtly ridiculous and harmful. Should you be deplatformed?
I am talking about people spreading opinions they disagree with. I am referring to specific instances within the programming community of which I'm a part of. I never said anyone shouldn't have a right so say what they want. Only that they are responsible for perpetuating.
