Strings are terrible representations for file paths. You end up having to do way more work to process them when you're passing it around. Extracting extensions, basenames, crawling up the directory chain etc.

Read more about UNC but should be able to support it, at least as well as Node does. I was going to just leave it unsupported but I'm sure there's on poor soul out there working from a shared network drive.

Further update: I have UNC paths supported as a first-class citizen. Including relative paths etc.
