I've hid the activity bar in VSCode and have been using keyboard shortcuts. Would highly recommend it. The editor feels a lot more balanced and there's way less empty space.

"I'm A rEaLlY fAsT tYpEr" jk. my only suggestion is to devote a weekend to vim and/or emacs if you never have before, it can at least be eye-opening. Either is incredibly useful for a number of things but can be eye-opening if you've never done modal before
