I've hid the activity bar in VSCode and have been using keyboard shortcuts. Would highly recommend it. The editor feels a lot more balanced and there's way less empty space.

"I'm A rEaLlY fAsT tYpEr" jk. my only suggestion is to devote a weekend to vim and/or emacs if you never have before, it can at least be eye-opening. Either is incredibly useful for a number of things but can be eye-opening if you've never done modal before

I've found that using the Vim plugin for your preferred editor is often ~good enough. You get the most important keyboard shortcuts without sacrificing the rest of your editor preferences. The VSCode and Atom ones are pretty good IME

I use to think the same, till I realized I edit/navigate more than I code. So I made it as a priority when choosing an editor. Being fast at typing doesn’t hold much if you need to use your mouse or arrow keys when navigating code. Also using mbp trackpad made my wrist hurt
