no not at all. I'm legit just asking for context here. The anwser seems to be that commonjs was the format of choice at the start and therefore all the patterns that come along with node have been used.

I was just surprised that the react code on npm doesn't "just run" on the web. I have since been told that react assumes a bundler environment.
