For babel, kcd-scripts adds the react preset if the host project's package.json includes a dependency on react. Does similar for eslint. For jest, it adds setupFilesAfterEnv if the host project has a file under tests/setup-env.js Stuff like that.

Those examples aren't super compelling since Rome will have the functionality of all those tools listed

I can't even tell you how excited I am for an advancement in JS tooling that'll eliminate the need for all these app scaffolding frameworks, boilerplates, etc etc etc. No pressure! :)

If a tool gets in the way of me fixing a build issue, I'll never use it. Too many edge cases. Set my defaults and hand me a webpack merge to ruin things for myself, or not.

If we make it good, then people will jump through hoops to use it even if it's missing certain "critical" features of other tools.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -
I think you want to build something widely valuable. I also don't think you can predict edge cases. The worst case scenario is you paint someone into a corner that they can't see coming and they hit it 6 months into a contract.

That can happen with existing tools already though?

Not with tools that expose webpack properly. Or at least the number of such things are extremely tiny.

But what if he's not using webpack.... (p.s. he's not... Rome is its own thing)

Yeah... The smallest Rome dependency is Node.js
