America has made me hate the words caramel and mocha. Never have I experienced a place so divided on the basic pronunciation of words.

You’ll have to explain mocha though. I legit don’t understand this. Are there multiple pronunciations?

There's two that I know of. Both pronounce the "cha" the same. The first is "mow". The second is pronouncing "mo" the same as in "moth" or American "mom". I do not understand the justification for mow. It's an American pronunciation bastardisation from the original Italian word.

hard agree, and i live in coffee shops. It feels like maybe matcha is getting mixed up with mocha? Caramel is indeed a minefield.

I pronounced it here. I grouped it together with caramel because they're two words I regularly need to overpronuncuate so I can be understood. Most likely an Australian thing however I always heard it in the UK toohttps://twitter.com/sebmck/status/1145122407251763200?s=09 …
