I stand corrected: yarn is not a facebook project, despite being launched to look very much like one. so, who owns the IP?

      > despite being launched to look very much like one We went out of our way to make it to not look like that https://techcrunch.com/2016/10/11/facebook-partners-with-google-others-to-launch-a-new-javascript-package-manager/ … I wrote Yarn while employed at Facebook, it's not clear how it would have been released without that association.

Wait, you're using _that_ article to illustrate "went out of our way to make it not look like a Facebook launch"? Really? It literally says "Facebook today launched Yarn, a new package manager for JavaScript. " and doesn't include any pushback from you.

It was some press interview I was made to do. I answered questions from the reporter. I did not organize it. The article references other companies. If you want the official Facebook post: https://code.fb.com/web/yarn-a-new-package-manager-for-javascript/ … > a collaboration with Exponent, Google, and Tilde

There is no denying that Yarn was started at Facebook, written mostly by a single person. I tried my hardest to collaborate with other people and companies to the best of my ability, because that's how I operated before joining. I didn't want to change that.

I'm just saying that it was a weird thing to call out as showing that you tried to convey that it wasn't a facebook project. As a piece of communication, it didn't do that, and in fact, implied exactly the opposite.

How could the intent have been better conveyed?

Uh... I'm still confused how you think it could have been conveyed in anyway by the article? What in there could possibly have given that impression given that it actually says: "instead of hacking around npm’s limitations, Facebook decided to rewrite it from scratch"

The TechCrunch title explicitly mentions Google and at the end of the first paragraph it says: > Over time, the team got help from developers at Google, Exponent and Tilde

Right, but getting help doesn't make something not be a Facebook project. Someone saying "yarn is a Facebook project" isn't claiming that ONLY facebook works on it.
