I wish React could support: `style="backgroundColor: rebeccapurple"` vs only `style={{ backgroundColor: "rebeccapurple" }}` (I've been doing some copy/pasting from HTML lately)

That would be nice! Unfortunately, React supports more than just the DOM (Mobile/VR/windows/etc), and html style strings only make sense for the web.
react-dom can do whatever it wants. Which it does already by turning style objects to strings for elements. Theres nothing special about the style attribute, you can treat it the same as other attributes with the same DOM APIs.
