TypeScript versioning seems to be a bit of a mess. There's no way to define a specific version in your tsconfig.json so someone using vscode could be using a different version. Is there something I'm missing here?

It's really a VS Code feature, but should be mentioned in the TS docs, IMO. You can select the TypeScript version in the VS Code status bar by clicking on the version number. "Workspace Version" is the dev dependency version.pic.twitter.com/cPSZHs4s6y

I've mentioned this before. The docs are, I think, the biggest problem with Typescript. Almost all relevant information is found within the release notes (under "what's new" and indexed by TS version). It'd be fine if that info was _also_ in the indexed docs, but it's not...

Yep. 1. Docs, 2. Error messages

Interesting, yeah - I think all the docs assume you have TypeScript in your node modules. This version gets prioritised in vscode. Open to figuring out what docs for not having typescript in your project looks like though, how were you invoking the compiler?

It is a big criticism; it’s just bad to criticize without contributing back. I’ve started to work on improving the docs but it seems like the OSS team doesn’t triage PRs very frequently; or at least as frequently as other projects because I imagine they are focused on other stuff
