Being in America helps a lot too with streaming services. Unfortunately overseas they can suck pretty bad with limited content due to georestrictions. It’s also great that there’s so many high quality F2P games now which were a rarity even just 10 years ago.

It is not always about money. In Ukraine, for instance, the language is Ukrainian but sometimes you can legally only get something in Russian. So some will prefer to pirate the original audio, instead of paying for the Russian

For me, the main problem was bandwidth. Most thing s (movie, games) took a full day to multiple weeks to download. Not to mention the crazy ISP plans. Payed $7.38 equivalent for a GB @ 64 Kbps then vs $20 for 650 GB @ 150 Mbps now.

Sure it is. I'm only in the position I am because of the privilege that was afforded to me. Being born in Australia, having decent social security that funded my whole childhood, having access to decent education with a free laptop etc. Doesn't mean I didn't work hard.

Culture shouldn't be a privilege! Consider changing mind about the fact that everyone should work hard to get basic stuff. There are also large chunks of populations that do not have possibility to earn these "privileges".

I’m not sure I follow? Maybe I already addressed your point here? https://twitter.com/zaguiini/status/1132704308284276742?s=21 …

It’s an awesome feeling. A bit of it changed when I also started writing apps. How would I feel someone pirating my apps and not paying the price. Getting up to date movies is still pretty bad where I am. Kinda lame paying for Netflix but not getting the same content as others

I think the ability to pirate is itself a privilege. Meaning you own a computer, have access to the internet, have access to electricity, etc.

What about the content you were growing up with? Some of it is not available to buy here or would most likely be illegal to download even if you're ready to pay for it because it was a derived content made by someone without a license for the original content.

Yeah that's a struggle. A lot of old Australian content isnt even available locally. Also American media dominates Australia a lot so fortunately have had anything too significant missing.
