So ordering a Three SIM requires a credit check with three years worth of residential addresses... in the UK. Is the wait period for getting a UK phone number really three years?

I think most people stick with the FB sim. Way less hassle with numbers and carrying two phones around.
You can also transfer your number when you leave FB, so there isn't a lot of hassle.

That’s hassle though. I hate the whole process with phone number transfers; especially calling up the carrier only to be put on hold for an hour.

Meh don't listen to them, separate work from life :) Not all carriers require background checks. We use giffgaff. This country definitely has trust issues. You'll find this with more services. I remember a credit check in at least 7 places when we relocated to the UK from NL :/
